Y Glasgow now accommodates and supports up to 700 men, women and children who have arrived in Scotland as Asylum Seekers. Executive Convenor John Milne paid tribute to the work and commitment of the entire Y Glasgow Refugee Support Staff Team led by Anne Kinghorn.
Cathie Todd and her maintenance team have also responded well to the new challenges of additional responsibilities outwith Central Branch itself. John noted that the Y currently managed 101 flats within Central Branch and 175 flats across the City and beyond.
Meanwhile the major Community Involvement Initiative organised by Shafiq Mohammed is achieving very positive results. Y Glasgow is now financially supporting the Strathclyde Police Operation Reclaim which is designed to support young people living in multi-cultural areas by providing positive activities and opportunities. A recent fun Gala Event held outside Central Branch by Operation Reclaim was a huge success with large numbers of young people engaged in a variety of sporting and cultural programmes.
