This project provides temporary supported accommodation for singles or couples over 16 years of age. There are 14 bed spaces available, 4 of which are suitable for double occupancy.
WEST PILTON OVERVIEW
The West Pilton Project provides support at all levels for both male and female users aged 16 and over for a period of anything up to 3 months. Staff work with residents to enable them to prepare for independent living and as part of a multi agency network we provide support in all aspects of core skills (literacy, numeracy), life skills (cooking, cleaning) and social skills (interacting with outside bodies) as well as providing support tailored to the individuals needs.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The West Pilton Project opened in December 2002 in the North of Edinburgh. The project consists of 14 fully furnished rooms, 4 of which are doubles. On the ground floor all service users have access to a communal lounge, dining room, bathroom and kitchen. The office is also situated on the ground floor, where staff are on duty 24 hours a day.
We have established an extensive network of support services throughout Edinburgh; this assists in our delivering support to the highest standard.
VISION
Most medium support users face a variety of obstacles preventing them from securing and maintaining a tenancy of their own. Our primary objective is to provide an environment that allows the user to address any problems they might have and assist them in obtaining long-term accommodation. For our high support needs residents, outside organisations are accessed to secure a more suitable long-term supported accommodation alternative.
There is a wide range of contacts, activities and events happening throughout Edinburgh in conjunction with other YMCA Glasgow managed projects at Pilton and Broomhouse and we are geared towards helping people make informed choices.
Finally, we also aim to help residents develop their full potential through recreation, sport, vocational and educational pursuits.
