This project provides supported accommodation for young single adults aged 16-25 years of age. 15 bed spaces are available in this project, which is integrated with the local community.
Broomhouse Project Overview
The Broomhouse Project is a medium level support unit consisting of 15 beds for both male and female service users.
We provide support for priority needs homeless people beetween the ages of 16-25yrs. Staff work with the residents to enable them to prepare for independent living and as part of a multi agency network we support the service users in all aspects of Core Skills (literacy/numeracy), Life Skills (cooking, cleaning) and Social Skills (activities contacting outside organisations), as well as providing support tailored to the individual's needs.
Project Background
The Broomhouse Project consists of five, three bedroomed flats and office/area. We opened in January 2002 in the West of Edinburgh and have already established an extensive network of support services throughout Edinburgh.
Vision
In today's society young people are faced with a variety of social problems. Working with a vulnerable client group is challenging and highlights the social need for supported housing. The staff team at the Broomhouse Project recognise this challenge and will continue to work to provide a safe environment, where service users are treated with equality and offered information and support to help them move towards independent living.
There is a wide range of contacts, activities and events happening throughout Edinburgh in conjunction with other YMCA Glasgow managed projects in Pilton and West Pilton, which are geared towards helping homeless adults make informed choices.
Finally, we aim to help residents develop their full potential through recreation, sports, and vocational and/or educational pursuits.
